Top left: Laser Doppler imaging system (FluxEXPLORER, Microvascular Imaging, Lausanne, Switzerland) consists of a CMOS camera carried by a flexible arm that can be fixed on a table, data acquisition and processing software, computer, and monitor. Besides the LDI values, the camera is able to capture black and white photographs of the same area.

PURPOSE OF PRESENTATION/STUDY: To compare the accuracy of Laser Doppler Imaging (LDI) and clinical assessment in differentiating between superficial and deep partial thickness burns to decide whether early tangential excision and grafting or conservative management should be employed to optimize burn and patient management. INTRODUCTION: Laser Doppler imaging (LDI) is a relatively new method for assessing the functional aspect of superficial skin blood flow in systemic sclerosis (SSc) and Raynaud's phenomenon. There have been numerous technological developments to assist in managing burn wounds, including Laser Doppler Imaging (LDI), which is a helium-neon laser that objectively measures the blood flow and/or healing potential for indeterminate-depth burn wounds. Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF), laser Doppler imaging (LDI) and laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) can non-invasively quantify digital perfusion and may be useful outcome measures for clinical trials in SSc-RP and/or SSc-DU. Laser Doppler perfusion imaging (LDI) is currently used in a variety of clinical applications, however, LDI instruments produce images of low resolution and have long scan times. A new optical perfusion imager using a laser speckle measurement technique and its use for in vivo blood flow measurements are described.

Recent studies suggest the use of topical nitroglycerin (NTG) application in systemic sclerosis (SSc)-associated Raynaud phenomenon (RP). With the current study, we aimed to characterize for the first time the microvascular response to a NTG patch (Trinipatch ® 5 mg/24 h) applied to the hand dorsum in patients with SSc using Laser Doppler imaging (LDI) at baseline and following a cold challenge.

Laser Doppler The images of Laser Doppler like other Doppler based modalities, such as Doppler ultrasound, provide information about moving objects. A He-Ne laser is used for illumination of the skin and the backscattered and reflected light is collected by a detector.

In essence, a moving mirror directs a beam of coherent red light generated by a 633-nm helium-neon laser … Laser Doppler imaging (LDI) is a non-invasive imaging modality compatible with classical medical instrumentation, where discomfort and risk to patients is minimized. LDI is able to monitor the blood perfusion in dermal tissue, for instance the microcirculation in skin.

Laser Doppler imaging (scanning laser Doppler) LDF offers continuous perfusion measurement. However, cutaneous circulation is known to be heterogeneous, and examining a small area of perfusion does not necessarily give representative data for the surrounding perfusion [ 16 ]. Laser Doppler velocimetry is used in hemodynamics research as a technique to partially quantify blood flow in human tissues such as skin or the eye fundus.
